Joan Wooley

January 2, 1929 — February 18, 2024

Indianapolis, IN

Joan Wooley, 95, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on February 18, 2024. She was born on January 2, 1929, in Indianapolis, to the late Kenneth and Thea Tucker.

Joan graduated from Shortridge High School and attended Butler University. Throughout her long life, Joan worked for a number of companies, witnessing incredible changes in technology with curiosity and an eagerness to learn. Her adaptability was remarkable; she learned how to use a computer, text, and facetime, staying connected with loved ones. Most of all, Joan embraced being a mother and grandmother as this role gave her the most pride and joy.

Known for her bright and energetic personality, Joan touched many lives with her generosity and passion for life. She was known for her quick wit, her engaging smile, her genuine interest in people and her chocolate chip cookie jar that was always full of her famous “Grammy Cookies”. Joan was an animal lover and always shared her home with one of the sweet older dogs that she adopted over the years. She loved to spend time in and tend to her garden. Her favorite pastime was hand crafting, often accompanied by watching the Colts or other sporting events on TV. She was skilled in knitting, counted cross stitch, rug hooking and needlepoint. Joan was also an avid card player and was a member of several local bridge clubs and neighborhood card groups. She was particularly fond of playing Euchre with her children and the extended group of young people who all lovingly called her “Grammy”.

Joan is survived by her four children, Janet Sexson, Jeffrey (Kelly) Wooley, Dan Wooley, and Steve (Cheryl) Wooley, her grandchildren Lauren, Kate, Myra, Aubriel and Pariss and her great grandchild Addison, all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Merrill G. Tucker.

A private Graveside Service will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution in Joan’s name to the Hamilton County Humane Society.
