Joan Wakeland

Joan Marie Wakeland, age 84, of Zionsville died April 3, 2012. She was born to the late Herb and Alice (Carpenter) Gaines on October 6, 1927 in Indianapolis. After graduating from Howe High School, she married Charles Earl Wakeland on December 1, 1945. Joan was a longtime member of Zionsville Christian Church and belonged to Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. Joan is survived by her children Steven Lee Wakeland (Lou Ann), Judith Ann Morris (Jeff), and Jennifer Lynn Kouns (Brian); 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Charles Broeking. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Charles and her infant brother, Jack. Visitation will be Monday, April 9, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan Zionsville. Funeral services will be held there Tuesday, April 10th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Zionsville Fire Department or Zionsville Christian Church.
