Joan Sargent Lee of Speedway died May 30, 2018 on her 92nd birthday. She was born in Point Pleasant, West Virginia and, as a young girl, lived in Washington, D.C. and Indian Head, Maryland. She attended the University of Maryland for one year, and after returning home, she met her future husband, Jack Lee, who was stationed in Indian Head as a U.S. Marine. They married in 1946 and moved to Indianapolis.
In the mid 1950s, Joan decided to return to college. After graduating from Butler University, she taught for twenty eight years at IPS School #67, Guion Creek, Eastbrook, and Eagle Creek Elementary.
Retirement gave her time for tennis, golf, and extensive travel in the United States and around the world. She was a Master Gardener, docent at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and tutor for adult literacy.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jack Lee. She is survived by her daughter, Connie (Leo), grandsons, Mike and Tom Blackwell, and her sister Jean Osborne of LaPlata, Maryland, and nephews, Ralph and Danny (Donna) Lee, Jeff, Jack (Janie) and Mike Osborne.
Her family wishes to thank the staff of Robin Run Village for their kindness and compassionate care for the past seven years.
