Joan Pauline Roberts, 86 of Carmel, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 23, 2016. Joan was born April 14, 1930 in Akron, OH to the late William and Mary Doloslaw. In 1954 Joan married Bruce B. Rosenberg, later changing their last name to Roberts. He preceded her in 2002.
Joan earned her Bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Akron and a Master’s in Education from Indiana University, with post graduate work at Butler University. She was an elementary teacher for nearly 35 years, teaching in Akron, Milwaukee and Indianapolis area schools.
Joan was a member of numerous Episcopal Churches including: Trinity, St. Paul’s and St. Christopher’s, and was an active volunteer at all of them. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. Joan also volunteered at Crossroads Rehabilitation Center, Indianapolis Museum of Art and Alliance of the IMA, Hilton Head Art League, and School for the Blind. Additionally, Joan wrote poetry and had several poems published in the Island Packet. One of her poems is in the Coastal Discovery Museum at Hilton Head.
Private services for the immediate family will be held at a later date.
Joan is survived by her sons, Bruce J. (wife, Cheryl) and Scott B. Roberts; grandchildren, Paige Roberts, Max Roberts, Jack Roberts, and Darby Roberts; brother, Raymond Darrell.
The Roberts family would to especially thank the care givers, staff, and Joan’s lady friends at Sunrise on Old Meridian. Joan enjoyed your warmth, support, caring, and your friendships.
