Joan M. Curry, 74, Speedway, passed away on March 21, 2018. She was born March 28, 1943, in Camden, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Paul and Joyce (Percival) Cuneo. She married Roger W. Curry on March 23, 1968, in Bremerton, Washington.
Joan was an active member of St. Gabriel Parish for many years. She also worked in the accounting and payroll departments at Sears Roebuck and Co., and at the Indiana School for the Blind, where she made many lifelong friends. Her younger years were spent chauffeuring kickball teams and cheerleaders all over Indy. She was an avid fan of whatever her daughters were doing, Notre Dame football, and the Philadelphia Phillies, not necessarily in that order. No one made tastier Italian roast beef or manicotti than Joan. Her rhubarb pie was also second to none. As time allowed, she enjoyed traveling with her husband to Indiana State Parks, lighthouses across the U.S., and spending time on Florida beaches. In her later years, she loved to relax on her screened-in porch and enjoy the birds and flowers. Yet her absolute favorite activity was spending time with her family, feeding them, and making everyone feel at home, loved, and content.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; brother, Robert Cuneo; and sister, Marie Roberts. She is survived by two children, Carolyn (Chuck Walden) Runge, and Linda (Bryan) Huff; eight grandchildren, Michael, Brian, David (Claire Siesfeld), Adrienne, and James Runge, as well as William, Samantha, and Shepard Huff; siblings, Michael Cuneo and Chris Cusato; as well as too many cousins, nieces, and nephews to mention.
A special thank you to the Sisters of St. Benedict and everyone at St. Paul Hermitage. Their service and commitment to the elderly is truly extraordinary. We, her family, are forever grateful for the compassionate care and constant love and attention that Joan received.
