Joan Heald

January 16, 1938 — March 15, 2014

Joan Heald (Pak Mal Yon) 76, of Indianapolis, passed away March 15, 2014. Joan was born near Pusan, South Korea on January 16, 1938. She met and married Dave Heald, an Air Force man, and in 1963, they moved to Plainfield, IN, which proved to be quite different from what she had read and dreamed about while growing up in South Korea. Joan was very strong, loving and dedicated woman. Following a divorce from her husband, she sacrificed much to provide for her three young children. She would often work two and three jobs at a time, without complaint, to make sure they were taken care of. She owned her own beauty shop, tending to clients such as Dick the Bruiser and even appeared as a guest on the hit show, Cowboy Bob. She also had a very successful import/export business supplying to several Paul Harris stores. Family was everything to Joan. She will be lovingly missed by her children, David Heald (wife, Gretchen), Diana Dexter (husband, Paul) and John Heald (wife, Anita); and eight grandchildren: Brittani, Kyle, Zachary, Jake, Gregory, Brendan, Julia and Riley. Calling will be held from 11am until 1pm on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 in the Good Shepherd Chapel at Flanner and Buchanan- Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250, where funeral services will immediately follow at 1pm. Entombment will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
