Joan Elizabeth Ester
81, Indianapolis, passed away March 8, 2015. Joan was born in New York City, New York on November 26, 1933 to parents, Henry "Harry" A. and Elizabeth (Murray) Valla.
Joan retired from the Finance Center at Ft. Benjamin Harrison after 37 years. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and volunteered for St. Vincent de Paul. She loved traveling, going to the movies, and bingo.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred McKay and sister, Patricia Tsaldaris. She will be lovingly missed by her daughters, Debra Ester-Heindel, Kathleen Ester, and Theresa Scott (Brian); three grandchildren: Morgan and Marty Rafalski and Stormie Carver; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Riley Carver; and siblings: Gerry Baldwin, Henry Valla (Ethel) and Frank Valla (Camille).
Friends may call from 5pm until 7pm, Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Flanner and Buchanan- Broad Ripple. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Friday, March 13, 2015 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Drive, Indianapolis, where additional calling will be held from 9:30am until the service time. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Clearvista Lake Health Campus for their continued care and support given to them during this time.
In lieu of flowers, Joan would have appreciated a contribution in her memory to St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Indianapolis Humane Society.
