Joan Albrecht

September 16, 1930 — September 4, 2012

Joan Meyer Albrecht was born of Albert & Edmonia (Storm) Meyer and five siblings in Brunswick, MO. After graduating Brunswick High School, she attended business school in Kansas City, Mo. She married her great love and partner, James Russell Albrecht, also from Brunswick. Joan gave birth to son James R. Albrecht, Jr. in Minnesota, and daughter Julie E. Henke in Colorado. After moving with her family to Indianapolis in 1953, daughter Jerri A. Bruckmann was born. Joan began working for Allison Transmission, a division of General Motors, where she remained employed for 35 years. She retired as Manager of Data Processing. Joan enjoyed traveling. She explored with husband Jim and/or her many friends around the country, returning home to Brunswick, maintaining close relationships with her family. She was ever generous with her time volunteering to read to grade school children, being an active participant in the local Republican Party and Women In Neighborhood Service (WINS). She gave time lovingly to family and friends, supporting them in their activities and needs. Joan is survived by her three children, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, brother Roland Meyer and sister Mary Beth Olvader. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 8 at 2 PM at Flanner and Buchanan- Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Road, with calling from 1 PM until service time. "In lieu of sending flowers, please donate to your local library in support of Joan's love of reading; or, if you prefer, donate to any organization you deem appropriate in memory of Joan M.
