Jim Clevenger

December 8, 1927 — March 18, 2011

James M. Clevenger, 83, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully March 18, 2011. Born in Columbus, IN, he was the youngest of five siblings. Jim was preceded in death by wife, Joyce. Jim graduated from George Washington High School in 1946, where he was a gifted athlete, earning All-City football honors and selected team captain. A Marine Corp. veteran, Jim was also a 32nd degree Mason, and member of the Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine. Jim retired from Eli Lilly after over 30 years. He loved the scenic beauty of Switzerland County along the Ohio River, building a home overlooking the River after retirement. Jim and Joyce shared nearly 25 winters in Tarpon Springs, FL, enjoying Gulf Coast living and sunshine. Jim had a lifelong love for music. He played the banjo with sing-alongs at Rittenhouse Senior Living, until his illness recently silenced his songs. He maintained his smile, gentle spirit and sense of humor, until his end. Survivors include daughter Jeanne Walter, sons James Clevenger and Jay (Kay) Clevenger, grandchildren Jennifer (Tom) Moore and Amy (Chris) Dirig, and five great grandchildren. A special thanks to Rittenhouse and everyone at St. Vincent Hospice. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 4pm at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Speedway. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Vincent Hospice. You are invited to go to the Guest Book page to pass along your personal message or tell a story. Sincerely, -Your friends at Flanner and Buchanan
