James L. and Jewell Mae Johnson of Indianapolis, both 75, married September 23, 1955, died a day apart, James L., passed away February 10 and Jewell, February 11, 2013 in Lakeland, Florida.
James L. was born April 12, 1937 in Morgantown, KY the son of Homer and Nola Johnson and raised by the John Woodcock family from an early age. Jewell Mae Johnson was born December 2, 1937 in Liberty, KY the daughter of Jesse and Mary Thelma (Wethington) Farris.
James L. had retired from Ford Motor Company and was a member of UAW Local 1111. Prior he had worked at VanCamp Hardware and Iron, Lau Blower, and he served 8 years in the Indiana National Guard. James L. enjoyed all types of hobbies from his guns to reading and various between.
Jewell had also worked at VanCamp, Lane Bryant and Whitestown Market. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed cookbooks. She and James L. had both been former members of Whitestown Baptist Church and both loved family and friends.
Survivors include son, James "Mike" Johnson, (wife-Cheri); daughters, Regina Carroll, (husband-Mike) and Ann Nichols; grandchildren, Bryan, Greg, Sarah, Brooke, Holly, Cara, and Aleigh; five great grandchildren and Jewell's brother Carroll Farris, (wife-Carolyn); and nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents and James' two brothers, Harvey and George Johnson.
Services will be held at 10am on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Flanner and Buchanan-Floral Park, 425 N. Holt Rd. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the funeral home.
