Jessie May Hoy

Jessie May (Weidinger) Hoy, 88, of Indianapolis passed away Saturday, October 10, 2015. She was born November 12, 1926 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to the late Rachel (Boyd) Weidinger. Jessie was a 1944 graduate of Albuquerque High School. Shortly after graduation, she met the love of her life, Edwin O. Hoy and settled in Indianapolis upon their marriage. They enjoyed their 26-year union until his death in 1973. Jessie was a professional secretary and worked for several doctors' offices and companies, including Pitman-Moore and Indianapolis Public Schools. While raising her two sons, she worked as the head administrative assistant for T.C. Steele (#98) Elementary School and later John Marshall Junior High School. In this role, she mentored and befriended many students who became life-long friends. She loved to travel, Jessie made many road trips and "wandered Indiana" with her best friends – the late Ruth Browne, the late Betty Ferrell, Melba Clappsaddle and Doris Portwood. These adventures almost always resulted in getting lost on the Hoosier backroads. Thus, Jessie developed a keen sense of map-reading (prior to today's GPS systems) and always found her way home. These trips also guaranteed much laughter among these best friends. Jessie also bragged (with no apologies) about her two granddaughters and two grandsons. Her home's refrigerator served as a shrine to their many photos, artwork and accomplishments. She also spoiled the many pet dogs that were fortunate enough to be adopted from local shelters by her. Jessie is survived by her two children, Edwin David (Lee Ann) Hoy and Jay Thomas (Susan) Hoy; and her four grandchildren, Elyse, Tommy, Emily and Eric. In addition to having a close family, she had many friends throughout her life. She will be missed dearly by all. A Graveside service will be held at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
