Jessica Lauren Downey-Barefoot, age 38, died unexpectedly 27 August 2021, following complications related to leukemia treatment. She was born 5 April 1983 to Patricia (Coomer) Barefoot and Kevin Barefoot in Muncie, Indiana. She married the love of her life, Adam Nelson Downey, in his parents’ backyard in Fishers, Indiana on 1 June 2007. They welcomed their son, Zachary Milo, in February 2020.
Jessica graduated from Pendleton Heights High School in 2001. She went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Indiana University in 2009. She enjoyed working full time as a nanny before the birth of her son.
She was a lover of bulldogs, snarky memes and upscale dining. Jessica had a lifelong love of music, with a special passion for attending concerts with friends. Her favorite artists included The Beatles and Incubus. She also played guitar, and planned to teach her son how to play as he grew.
Adam and Jessica enjoyed several traditions together, including traveling to see friends and family, adult coloring and seeing every Marvel movie together on opening night.
Jessica will be lovingly missed by her husband, Adam Downey-Barefoot and infant son, Zachary; mother, Patricia; father, Kevin (Bonnie); brother, and MDS survivor, Kevin Zachary Barefoot (Sarah); father-and-mother-in-law, Kevin and Barbara Downey; sister-in-law, Michelle Anglin (Brent); nieces Kaitlyn and Rubyanne and nephew Gideon; and a large network of extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, 3 September 2021, at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), Indianapolis, IN. The family will receive visitors before the service from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
