Jesse Dewitt Farmer

Indianapolis, Indiana - Jesse D. Farmer, 93, known to many as "Sarge" passed away while being comforted by his daughters on January 6, 2026. The loss of Sarge as a father, a mentor, and a friend to so many will be felt by all who knew him.

Sarge was born in Emhouse, Texas to parents Talmadge and Laura Mae (Patrick) on January 3, 1933. Sarge joined the United States Army and served for 17 years in Germany, Colorado, and his final Duty Station at Fort Benjamin Harrison as an Atomic Demolitions Expert. After leaving the Army Sarge along with his wife, Rosemarie, ran Sarge's Tu Your Door Pizza and the Park Terrace Motel for many years. His time in the military had a lasting effect, helping to make him the beloved Sarge that would Mentor not only his daughters but, many many others especially the hundreds of kids at the pizza place.

During his deployment in Germany Sarge met the love of his life, Rosemarie Schneider. They were married on, January 12, 1952, in, Heidelberg, Germany and celebrated 59 years of marriage together until Rosemarie's passing, in 2011. Together they raised a beautiful family including Margrit Farmer, an Army Brigadier General who served for 35 years, Deborah Farmer (preceded in 2008), Jacquelyn Farmer, a great friend and protector of cats and retired from Eli Lilly, and a granddaughter Kristina Merrick, a Security Analyst for the United States Navy.

Sarge, was a very social person through and through. Of Sarge's 10 siblings he is survived by 2 sisters (Barbara and Wiletta). He was also a great fan of poker. He helped to build up a community around his favorite game. All loved him and the camaraderie he brought to the tables.

Visitation will be held on, Friday January 16, 2026, 11:00am - 1:00pm at Flanner and Buchanan Memorial Park, 9350 East Washington Street, Indianapolis Indiana 46229 with funeral services following at 1:00pm. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.
