Jerry R. Glass

Jerry R. Glass, 84, left this life August 2, 2021 in Avon, Indiana. He was born August 29, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Robert F. & Ruth Isabelle (nee Scott) Glass.

In October 1959 he married the love of his life Myrna Potter and together they had one son, Robert (Sherri), who survive him. Also surviving him are his brothers Donald Glass and Richard (Sandy) Glass, and sister Debra (Ralph) Hatfield, and two grandchildren Evan (Samantha) Glass and Lauren (Ben) Radtke.

Jerry graduated from George Washington High School in 1955. His education continued at Indiana Central University, University of Maryland/Saigon, Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. He completed his education with a Masters Degree in Education from IUPUI in 1978.

Jerry retired from the Army after 26 years of reserve and active duty. His service included two tours of duty in VietNam, where he was a member of the Signal Corp and worked as a cryptographer. He was a member of American Legion Post 155. He also retired from the Indianapolis Public School System and continued teaching at the college level at Vincennes and Concordia Universities.

He started playing table tennis in his early teens in Indianapolis. While stationed in Germany for 3 years, he played for the TV 1893 Viernheim table tennis team. He was past president of the Epilogue Players and performed in many plays since 1993.

The family will receive friends and guests from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Flanner Buchanan – Speedway at 2950 N. High School Road in Indianapolis, with a memorial service to begin at 3 p.m. Jerry is interred at Floral Park Cemetery in Indianapolis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
