Jerry P. Sobota

Jerome (Jerry) Patrick Sobota went home to be with the Lord on November 5, 2022, surrounded by his wife and children, following a short but valiant battle with cancer. Jerry was born March 20, 1955, at Latrobe Hospital in Pennsylvania, to Paul Peter and Virgil Bridge Sobota and raised with his seven siblings in Derry, PA. After high school graduation, Jerry joined the United States Air Force. While stationed in Dayton, Ohio, he attended a Bible study, where he met Joy Louise Sager. They were soon inseparable and would remain so for the next 45 years. Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Jerry and Joy were married on August 6, 1977, and moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1979. There, Jerry started his company, White Oak Construction, out of the back of Joy’s 1973 Ford Pinto. From these humble beginnings, Jerry, supported by Joy and their three children, Jerry (1980), Paul (1982), and Laura (1985), built a distinguished business with 130 employees over multiple divisions across the state. Jerry was a tough but fair boss who was always committed to helping his employees and their families better themselves, and he gave generously of his time and resources to make that possible. While his business was important, Jerry never lost sight of what truly mattered. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was never happier than when he was playing in the leaves or chasing fireflies with his grandkids at their cabin in Brown County! Jerry had an unshakeable faith that he was happy to share with all those fortunate enough to cross his path. He relished singing in the choir at Church of the Master, where he and Joy were members for many years, and he will be greatly missed by their new congregation at Brownsburg Vineyard Church. Jerry loved music of all kinds and was an amateur steering wheel percussionist of some renown! Jerry is survived by his wife Joy; their three children: Jerry (Elizabeth), Paul (Dana), and Laura (Andrew) Strange; eight grandchildren: Brittany Gaskins; Kiera, Shawn, Angel, and Josiah Sobota; Harper Sobota; and Brooks and Kenna Strange; two great-grandchildren: James and Gracie Gaskins; and Peekaboo, one of many pets that kept Jerry and Joy company over the years. Jerry is also survived by siblings Mary Anderson, Timothy Sobota, Paul Sobota, Joan Van Dyke, and Florence Androstic. He is pre-deceased by siblings Mark Sobota and Delores Barnhart. A memorial service to celebrate Jerry’s life will begin at 11 am, on Saturday, November 12, 2022, with a visitation starting at 10 am.
