Gerald Wade Button, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on September 6, 2014 at Community East Hospital. Jerry, age 71, was born March 26, 1943 in Campbellsville, Kentucky to the late Hubbard "Hub" and Halcy Bloyd Button. He is preceded in death by his sister, Juanita Reed. In 1963 Jerry graduated from Columbus High School, Columbus, Indiana. He was married to Sherry (Engle) Button, of Brownstown, Indiana, in 1984. Jerry was very proud of his priced possession, a 1962 Chevy Impala, which he purchased for $2777 while working at Reliance Electric as a material handler. In addition, he recorded on the back of the photo that it was a 327 V8 and his salary at the time was $3.05 an hour. Jerry served in the Indiana National Guard from 1964 to 1970. He retired as a project manager with Motorola, after 35 years of service. Jerry enjoyed watching Angie Dawn play soccer and Sammie Jo's softball games, but he especially loved encouraging and coaching them in life as they grew up. In recent years, his joy was watching his three grandchildren's softball, baseball and football games. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and golfing, but most of all, he loved talking with anyone and everyone about anything!
In addition to his wife, Sherry, Jerry is survived by daughters, Angie Dawn West and Sammie Jo Button, both of Indianapolis, and three grandchildren, Bailey Jean, Jobey Alan, and Brady "Molly" Rose, and a brother, Bobby Button. Services will be on Wednesday, September 10 at 11 AM at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 9 from 4-8 PM, and also from 10 – 11 AM on Wednesday. Burial will be in Washington Park East Cemetery.
