Jerrie L. Rush

September 5, 1925 — January 8, 2014

Jerrie L. (Hill) Rush 88 of Indianapolis died January 8, 2014. She was born September 5, 1925 in Middletown, Ohio to parents, Ode and George Hill. Jerrie grew up working hard, loving the Big Bands and dancing the night away. A true bobby-soxer of the WWII era, she followed the likes of the Harry James Band, Frank Sinatra and others that came through Indianapolis, specifically in Fountain Square and at the Indiana Roof. Jerrie was also passionate about her family and was an accomplished artist. She was often seen with a needle in hand, standing over the oven, or tending to her long-stemmed roses. In later years, she enjoyed sitting at the front of her house talking with long time neighbors on each side of her and waving to others passing by walking and driving. She liked to drink coffee, eat grilled pimento cheese sandwiches and enjoyed watching soap operas and Fox news on television. Jerrie cherished playing games such as Yahtzee with grandsons and receiving frequent family visits from granddaughters. She was known for her sense of humor and quick wit and was proud of being of Native American ancestry, specifically of the Cherokee Nation. Jerrie was preceded in death by husband, Donald R. Rush, to whom she was married for over 54 years. Surviving are their six (6) children: Donald Rush; Cheryl (David) Rockwell; Sherri (Larry) Campbell; Mark (Pat) Rush; Matthew Rush; and Grant (Venus) Rush. She also leaves thirteen (13) grandchildren: Dawn, Tammy, Jeff, Carrie, Julie, Ellen, Bradley, Ryan, Shane, Andrea, Lauren, Erin and Katelyn. In addition, there are twelve (12) great grandchildren and one (1) great -great grandchild. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Visitation will be held in Indianapolis on January 13, 2014 at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park North from 9:30-11:30am, with funeral services to begin at 11:30am. Online condolences may be made at www.flannerbuchanan.com. Sincerely, -Your friends at Flanner and Buchanan
