Jerome Sternberg

Jerome Sternberg, 86, of Indianapolis, a very kind, loving and giving man, died July 10, 2014. He was born August 20, 1927 in Gary, IN the son of Joseph and Esther (Rappaport) Sternberg. He was a US Army Veteran of WW II and graduated from Indiana University in three years with a degree in accounting. He retired from Western Electric in 1986 where he was an Accounting Supervisor. He was an Officer and Director of "Greater Indianapolis Bowling Association from 1961 – 1974, serving as President in 1975. He was inducted into the Indianapolis Bowling Hall of Fame in 1985, and was named Indianapolis King Pin of The Year in 1989. He served at Secretary/Treasurer of the Indiana State Bowling Association from 1977-1989 and was inducted into the State Hall of Fame in 1989. He currently held the title of Secretary Emeritus. He bowled in many National tournaments and was serving as Secretary of the Tuesday Night Men's League at All Star. He served as the Door Keeper for the State of Indiana House of Representatives from 1989 to 1994 and again from 1997 until 2011 and was the Vice Democratic Ward Chairman. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janette (Englehart) Sternberg and his second wife of 47 years, Dorothy (Moore) Sternberg; step-daughter, Gloria Cleghorn; and grandson, Michael Thompson. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Lynette (Chris), his step-daughter, Denise Boyer (Brian) and step-son, Jeffrey Lazo (Miriam); 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 8:00 PM, on Monday, July 14, 2014 at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN, 46229. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Little Flower Catholic Church, 4720 E. 13th St., Indianapolis, IN 46201. Entombment in Washington Park East Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 6100 W. 96th St., #200, Indianapolis, IN 46278 or the Alzheimer's Association, 50 E. 91st St., Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
