Jerome "Jerry" Julius Kinzel, age 62, of Zionsville passed August 26th, 2014.
Jerry received his Ph.D. degree in Microbiology from Miami University Oxford, Ohio, and worked as a scientist at Eli Lilly and Co for 24 years where he rose to the position of General Manager and President of ImClone Systems. Jerry was a key architect of Lilly's biotechnology pipeline and this work has led to new medicines and potential medicines in cancer, diabetes, autoimmune diseases and Alzheimer's that will ultimately impact millions of peoples' lives around the world. His 'can-do' attitude was infectious and served the group well through difficult challenges. While serving as a technical leader he also took the time to meet regularly with employees to discuss their ideas and concerns. Many wonderful stories are told about the time he showed special attention to an employee's situation. His colleagues will greatly miss him but will also celebrate his legacy and strive to build upon that work for the benefit of mankind.
In addition to his work Jerry enjoyed many activities including astronomy, photography, traveling, playing with family pets, and homebrewing. His greatest passion in life was his family whom he loved dearly.
Jerry is survived by his wife Kathleen P. Kinzel, children Jennifer M. (James) Kinzel, Timothy A. (Emily) Kinzel, and Eric C. Kinzel. He is also survived by his first grandchild Victoria M. Kleinschmidt.
