Jeanne Maxine Sanders, 82, of Indianapolis, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, June 27, 2017.
She was born on December 4, 1934 in Beech Grove, IN to Robert E. and Dorothy (Stratton) Archer. Jeanne was raised in Indianapolis where she developed friendships that would last a lifetime. She married James Sanders in 1952 and they made their home in Beech Grove where they raised their 2 daughters.
Jeanne enjoyed a career in the mental health field where she served as a nurse and educator at Central State Hospital. She dedicated over 20 years of service before the hospital closed. Jeanne worked at Sears and also as a receptionist at the Altenheim Community where a resident lovingly named her ‘Jeanne with the light brown hair’. She never knew a stranger, making many dear friends along the way. She enjoyed reading and storytelling and had a passion for writing poetry. Jeanne was a longtime member of Southland Community Church in Greenwood and dearly loved her extended church family.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and her treasured grandchildren. Jeanne is survived by her daughters, Kellie (Mike) Anderson and Bethany (Michael) Nontell; step-daughter, Linda Sinclair; 8 grandchildren, Katy Snyder, Nathan Nontell, Angela Snyder, Rachel Earles, Michael Anderson, Bret Sinclair, Dwayne Blacklidge, Lisa Robles; and 10 great-grandchildren, Anthony Popplewell, Alexander Nontell, Janey Snyder, Rory Earles, Hunter Anderson, Catherine Sinclair, Tiffanie, Angel, JeffLee and Christopher Robles. She is also survived by her cousins, Billy, Albert, Lynda and Dale Fullerton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Robert Archer, Dorothy Archer- Turaska; step-father, Paul Turaska; loving husband, Jim Sanders; brother, Donald "Bo Bo" Archer; and cousin, David Fullerton. She leaves behind many memories that will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Flanner and Buchanan – Memorial Park from 2-6pm. Funeral services will take place on Monday at 12noon at Southland Community Church, Greenwood with additional visitation beginning at 11am, also at the church.
