Jeanita Guenthner Schulten, Indianapolis, passed away on August 30, 2025. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky to Helen and Joseph Guenthner. She married in 1966 and moved to Indianapolis.
Jeanita graduated from Holy Rosary Academy in 1962, received her RN from St. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in 1965 and completed her BSN at Marian College in 1980. At Marian she helped implement the BSN program and Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society.
Her nursing career included Psychiatric nursing, Occupational Health, Med-Surg, Internal Medicine Nurse Practitioner, and Nursing Supervisor. She helped start the first HMO in Indiana, Metro Health Plan. She served as VP of Patient Care and VP of Marketing and Communications for Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Her career pride was founder, President and CEO of Eris Survey Systems Inc. She was awarded “Woman Entrepreneur of the Year” by Ernst and Young in 1998.
She moved to Washington in 1999 and became the Director of Nursing at Foundation House Retirement Community. She also enjoyed traveling through Mexico, Alaska, the southwest US, Hawaii, Italy, and Turkey.
In 2006 she returned to Indianapolis and pursued leadership roles in assisted living retirement communities and as a nursing instructor. She loved her friends, being a Nana, mentoring others, gardening, reading, music, traveling and her church.
She is survived by her three children: Greg (Lora), Marlene (Phillip), and Steve; her grandchildren, Andrew (Jill), Mark (Anna), Joe (Kaley), Matt (Shelby), Margaret (Peter), Grace, and Ty; 5 great grandchildren; six nieces and nephews, and brother, Tom Guenthner.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 4:00pm-8:00pm at Flanner Buchanan Speedway and Thursday, September 11, 2025, 10:00am-11:00am at St. Christopher Catholic Church 5310 W. 16th Street Indianapolis, IN. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the church on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 11:00am. Jeanita will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN.
