Jean Y Togikawa, 53, passed away July 1st, 2011. Jean was born in Peoria, Il on March 10th, 1958 to Robert and Betty (Saito) Togikawa.
Jean had a lifelong passion for music and science, and volunteered at her daughters’ schools and diving events. She enjoyed gardening, art fairs, regularly attended the symphony, and was a Brownie Troop Leader. Although you would never know it by her actions, Jean had LAM, a progressive lung disease affecting only women. She was always willing to contribute to research efforts at the NIH and The LAM Foundation. She was an ardent volunteer for the LAM Foundation, and the Midwest Regional LAM Liason, a role in which she provided support to her LAM sisters.
Jean enjoyed a 29 year career as a Chemical Engineer for Eli Lilly & Co. which included many contributions to the development, manufacturing, and information systems for Biosynthetic Human Insulin.
Jean was preceded in death by her father Robert, and is survived by her mother Betty, sister, Paula Herring, husband Ed, and daughters Amy and Laura Plocharczyk.
The family will hold a visitation at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center, 105 W Pine, Zionsville, IN from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday, July 5th. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Alphonsus Church, 1870 W. Oak St, Zionsille IN at 11 am on Wednesday, July 6th.
