Jean D. Smith

Mrs. Jean D. Smith was born on March 13, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Robert and Elora Cross. Jean had three brothers and three sisters that preceded her in death. 

Jean was educated through the Indianapolis Public Schools system and was a graduate of Crispus Attucks high school. After graduating high school, she attended secondary school and soon after became employed at the Finance Center as an Accountant Director, retiring in the early 80s.

 On December 24, 1955, Jean was united in holy matrimony to Gates Smith who had one son Arthur Smith Sr. She was also blessed with one daughter Linda Shemwell-Baskin. Jean was a loving family woman who was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren.

Jean enjoyed bowling, line dancing, playing cards, and bingo.

Jean D. Smith departed this life at the young age of 94. She was a kindhearted, thoughtful, giving women who will be dearly missed. 

She is survived by one stepson, Arthur Smith Sr.; eight grandchildren, Traci Coleman, Robert Baskin (Robin), Sydni Sisk,  Brandon Baskin, Arthur Smith Jr, Demetric Smith, Dominic Smith, and Angel Smith; 24 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives, loved ones and friends.
