Jean N. Cunningham
went to her heavenly home on Friday, September 27, 2013. She was born a child of God to parents Philip and Ruth (Sheetz) Roettger on November 3, 1930. She was pre-deceased by her parents and daughter Barbra Jo Cunningham. She is survived by her husband of nearly 63 years Richard L. Cunningham, her daughter Debra A. Pisciotta, her son Ronald L. (Cathy) Cunningham, her son Steven P. (Cynthia) Cunningham and grandchildren Michael, Matthew, Elizabeth and Patrick. Also surviving are her brother Richard E.(Alice) Roettger, brother David A.(Sue Sellmer) Roettger and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jean graduated from Broad Ripple High School, and attended Butler and William Penn University where she was a member of the women's varsity basketball team. She was a member of Roberts Park United Methodist Church for 56 years. She served as a Trustee, on various committees, as a member of the Gray Circle and the cook for many special dinners. She was a Girl Scout Leader at all troop levels, and received the Meritorious Service Award. She was a member of PEO. She was employed at IPS #59 Merle Sidener School as a teacher aide, tutor and administrative assistant for 21 years.
Jean lived a life of love as prescribed in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She cherished her family and friends. In addition, she found great joy in cooking, gardening, and following the Cubs and Indianapolis hockey.
The family is very appreciative of the wonderful care and compassion provided to Jean by the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Vincent Hospital and the St. Vincent Residential Hospice.
Services for Jean will be at Roberts Park United Methodist Church, 401 N. Delaware, at 1:00PM Saturday, October 5, with visitation from 11:30AM until services. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Roberts Park United Methodist Church Endowment Fund or to Outreach, Inc.,2822 E. New York St. Indianapolis, IN 46201 would be appreciated.
