Jean A. Klingenberger

Jean Ayers Klingenberger, 96, died at Hoosier Village Retirement Community in Zionsville on February 15, 2022 with her children by her side. She was born on October 25, 1925 to Lloyd (Bill) and Mabel Ayers in Indianapolis, Indiana. She married Robert (Bob) Klingenberger on September 15, 1946. He preceded her in death.

In 1967, Jean was hired by Tony Hinkle at Butler University where she served as the athletic secretary until her retirement in 1988. She loved cheering on her Butler basketball boys and never missed a chance to watch their games.

In the 80s and 90s she spent time traveling with husband Bob, his brother Jim and Jim’s wife Janie. The four of them traveled all over the country having adventures that have become legendary in the Klingenberger family. After Bob passed, she spent her time volunteering with the Indiana State Museum and then serving on various committees in the Hoosier Village community including, the Welcome Wagon Committee, the Library Committee, helping with the Flea Market, Bingo at the Health Center, Walk and Roll, and many others.

Jean was a faithful friend who loved playing cards and dominos, drinking Riesling, watching sports, and spending time with her family. Jean was feisty and humorous all her life, and continued sharing jokes and laughter with those around her to the very end. Jean’s greatest joy was her 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Jean is survived by her brother, John Ayers, her children, Steve (Marsha), Terry (Sarah), and Lisa (Garth); her grandchildren, Danielle (Steve), Gwen, Ian (Amanda), Samantha (Rob), and Ben (Gloria); and her great grandchildren, Dominic, Mabel, Bentley, Betsy, Sloane, and Griffin.

A visitation for Jean will be held Wednesday, February 23 from 12p-2p at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park North 2706 Kessler Blvd. W. Dr. Indianapolis, followed by a celebration of life at 2p.
