Jay W. Archer

Jay W. Archer, 58 of Carmel passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. Jay was born October 23, 1957 in Byesville, OH and grew up in Bloomington and Indianapolis, IN. Jay had been a resident of Carmel since 1986.

Jay was a very proud graduate of Indiana University. He received his degree from The Kelley School of Business in 1980. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and an active member of The IU Student Foundation. He met the love of his life, Alison (Desmond) Archer, at IU. They were married on June 19, 1982.

Jay spent the majority of his professional career working as a commercial real estate developer for Duke Realty. He spent 30 years at Duke and most recently started a new journey as a partner at Pure Development. He loved the commercial real estate industry and cherished the community of friends and partnerships that came along with it. He received several awards and accolades during his successful career and was most recently honored with the NAIOP title of Commercial Real Estate Legend in the spring of 2016.

One of Jay’s truest passions was philanthropy. He was on the Board of Trustees for the Cancer Support Community for 16+ years. This organization held a very special place in his heart. In early 2016, the organization honored him with their most prestigious award, The Goldwasser. He was also very active with March of Dimes, United Way and Wheeler Mission as a donor and a volunteer.

Jay lived his life with the mantra of Faith, Family and Friends. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. His favorite thing to do was be with his family. He loved spending summer weekends at their lake house on Lake Monroe. He cherished family gatherings at home on Sundays and during the holidays. He was an avid fan of IU football and basketball and rarely missed a home Colts game. He devoted his life to bringing joy to those around him and living each day to the very fullest.

Jay is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Alison; children, Lindsey (Jonathan) Shaw and Kevin Archer; parents, William and Eileen Archer; brothers, Jeffery (Patricia) and Patrick (Rene) Archer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vincent and Judith Desmond; brother-in-law, Mark (Terra) Desmond; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to gather from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, October 24 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church with the recitation of the Rosary at 3:30 pm. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:15 am on Tuesday, October 25 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church.
