Jay K. Scheil

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Jay Kenneth Scheil, 62, left this world too soon, on June 19th, 2025. He was born April 22nd, 1963, in Indianapolis to parents Kenny and Susie Scheil.

Jay, affectionately known as “Jaybird” to his friends, grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Perry Meridian high school . He continued his education and received his degree from Indiana Central College.

On December 17th, 1994, Jay married the love of his life Betty. They have shared 30 wonderful years together, and have a legacy of four children.

Jay and Betty’s marriage was one for the books, and inspired everyone around them. He took great pride in providing for his family and being Betty’s solid rock. Being a devoted father to Maddie, Parker, Abbey, and Gabby was paramount for Jay. He was endlessly loving and supportive.

A determined, hard worker, Jay forged a career in sales. He was the outside sales representative and part owner of Utility Pipe Sales for many years. He was passionate about his work and treated his coworkers and clients like family.

Jay was a vibrant, loving gentleman. He never knew a stranger, loved to strike up a conversation with anyone, and was guaranteed to make you laugh. So generously he often went out of his way to help others. Jay volunteered his time with the Catholic Youth Organization. He loved coaching the children’s teams, especially youth and high school basketball. A true Hoosier, Jay was a big fan of the Indiana Pacers and the Colts, and a fan of The Cardinals as well.

Jay loved to travel. Any excuse to be in the sunshine, Jay was there. Yearly, he and his family visited his favorite spot, Key West. A die-hard Parrot Head, Jay truly embraced the island lifestyle.

Jay was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, great-uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty; children Maddie, Parker, Abbey, and Gabby; brothers Stan (Anne) Scheil and David (Sandra) Scheil; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and his three fur babies.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for Jay will be Thursday June 26th, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East, from 4-8pm. Addition visitation will be Friday June 27th, at Nativity Catholic Church from 11-12. His funeral Mass will begin at 12pm. Jay will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery following the ceremonies.

Following his graveside, a Celebration of Life will be held at Nativity Parish center.
