Jann Elizabeth Paul

September 6, 1946 — October 6, 2025

Carmel, IN

Jann Elizabeth Paul, 79, of Carmel, passed away on October 6, 2025, after nearly a decade of bravely facing Alzheimer’s disease. Even as her memory slowly faded, she remained a steadfast source of love, kindness, and generosity to all who knew and cared for her, especially her friends and family.

Born September 6, 1946, to Theodore and Geraldine Field in Atlanta, GA, and raised in Alexandria, VA, Jann graduated from Oxford College at Emory University and earned her master’s in social work from Tulane University. A devoted elder daughter who adored her parents, she was ambitious and professionally driven, rising to become Vice President of Planning at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD. There she led a task force focused on the health and wellbeing of adolescents and teenagers—work that earned a Point of Light Award presented at the White House by President George H.W. Bush.

Jann was also so much more. She was an eager adventurer, joyful dancer, enthusiastic shopper, and an adoring fan of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Kenny Chesney. She nurtured orchids as tenderly as she loved animals, especially her teacup Yorkshire terriers, Sasha and Zozo. Jann poured her energy into her community, from chairing Applefest to benefit Park Tudor School, where her children and grandchildren attended school , to supporting Christel House and the Indianapolis Pianists’ Association. Among all the places she traveled, none brought her more peace and happiness than St. John, USVI, whose natural beauty, solitude, and warm culture nourished her spirit throughout her life.

Her greatest love was her husband of more than 50 years, Steven Paul. The bond they shared endured every challenge—even the cruelty of Alzheimer’s — remaining unbroken to her final breath.

We offer special thanks to her devoted caretakers — Rashida Taylor, Anitra Lashun, and LaShonna Smith — whose exceptional care enabled Jann to remain at home throughout the later stages of her illness.

Jann is survived by her husband, Dr. Steven Paul; her children, Morgan McGill, Jordan (Dr. Mark) Fisch, Dr. Aaron (Hannah) Paul, and Austin Paul; grandchildren Lila Clair, Eli Fisch, Benjamin Fisch, Maisie Paul, and Max Paul; her sister, Joan Field; and her brother, Theodore Field. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any organization funding Alzheimer’s disease research.
