Janis “Dollie” M. Rohrman, passed away on February 18, 2026. Born to Nelle VanTreese in Chicago in 1928, Dollie never claimed to be any older than 39. She was a red-headed spitfire, topping out at a towering 4 feet 9 inches tall with the heart of a lion.
Together with her mother Nelle and brother Jerry VanTreese, they moved to Indianapolis where she attended school, graduating from Howe High School. It wasn’t long after that when she met the love of her life, Irvin T. Rohrman, while working at R.C.A. Victor Corp. They were married in February of 1950, setting up house in the Bates-Hendricks area on Indy’s near-southside.
After the loss of their first child, Carrie, children Mark C. and Cynthia “Cincie” M. came along. Needing more space they moved into the newly constructed Brookhaven area of Lawrence Township. Timothy J. arrived in due time, rounding out the family. Dollie called this house on Kitley Ave. home for over 70 years.
Her most important job was being our Mom but she had many outside interests. As a member of the Indiana Christian Chorale, in 1989 they embarked on a European Concert Tour performing in legendary locales throughout the Netherlands, West and East Germany and France, culminating in a concert performance at Notre Dame Cathedral.
To most – Dollie, to some – Janis, and to us – Mom, she has left us with a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. We are comforted in knowing that after waiting 21 years, she is finally reunited with the love of her life, our dad, Irvin. We love you Mom!
Janis was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Carrie and husband Irvin T. Rohrman. She is survived by step-sister Karen (Wikoff) Penrosa, sons, Mark C. (Lisa), Tim J. (Mary); daughter Cincie M.; grandchildren, Christopher, Carrie and Nicholas and great-grandchildren Jack and Joey.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, March 8th at St. Roch Parish Life Center from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Franciscan Hospice House, 8414 Franciscan Lane, Indianapolis, IN 46237.
