Janet Elizabeth Isham

November 8, 1941 — May 19, 2026

Indianapolis, Indiana

Janet Elizabeth Isham reposed in the Lord on May 19, following a brief battle with cancer. She passed away under the loving care of her family and friends.

Jan was born on Nov. 8, 1941, in Emporia, KS. Regardless of where she lived, she would always love the wildflower fields of Kansas. In her early adulthood, she worked as a hairstylist at Saks Fifth Avenue in downtown Chicago. In her mid-thirties, she moved to Isla Vista, California, to join a community of Christians seeking the historic Orthodox church and was received into the Church along with 2,000 others in 1987. Always an inspiring artist, Jan became a noted artist specialist in Eastern Orthodox iconography and is recognized for her profound influence on the craft in North America. Her icons adorn the walls and altars of many Orthodox churches and private homes, serving as her lasting legacy. Beyond her work, Jan was a caring friend and a mentor to many young women. Jan loved God, her family, and friends deeply. They were her joy in life.

Her son, Gary, preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter Kim Isham Farinella; her grandson Michael Cook, and his wife, Darci; her great-grandchildren Avery and Eva; her grandson Robert Barkley, his wife Amanda, and her great-granddaughter Adalynn; her brother Larry May; and her sisters Susan McGee and Jody May.

May her memory be eternal.
