Janet Louise Hieronimus Morehead, 85, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on July 7, 2023.
She was born on April 27, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, to parents, Henry G. Hieronimus and
Charlotte (Smith) Hieronimus.

On October 10, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois, Janet married the love of her life, John Arlen
Morehead (Jack). They spent a loving and dedicated 63 years of marriage, sharing in many
adventures and their love for their country as “Captain Jack” served honorably in the U.S. Navy
for 24 years.

Janet was a proud graduate of South Shore High School. After marrying Jack, they moved to
over 20 homes during their 63 years of marriage. She was an active part of the community
wherever they landed. At the Navy Relief Society, she logged over 10,000 hours and knitted
thousands of baby layettes for young Naval personnel in need. In Lake Forest, IL, she was a
familiar face over many years working at Griffith, Grant and Lackey. In Indianapolis, she
volunteered tirelessly at Community North Hospital and Connor Prairie.

Janet is survived by her loving husband, John Arlen Morehead; children, Scott Morehead,
Christopher (Katie) Morehead and Sarah (Steve) Combs; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild;
her brother, Henry Marshall Hieronimus; and many other family members and friends that she
held dearly in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Charlotte Hieronimus; and her brother,
John Peter Hieronimus.

Private services for Janet will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society at Naval
Station Bldg 26, 525A Farragut Ave, Great Lakes, IL 60088.
