Mrs. Janelle Griffin Palmer, daughter of the late Paul W. and Katie Langley Griffin was born April 15, 1931 in Augusta, Georgia. She attended the public schools of Columbia County and was a graduate of Tubman High School in Augusta, Georgia. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Warren Baptist Church in Augusta. She and her family moved their membership to Central Christian Church in Augusta when she was a teenager. She became a member of Northwood Christian Church in Indianapolis along with her husband in 1966.
She was united in marriage to Reverend Lester D Palmer May 6, 1951. They celebrated their 70th Anniversary in May 2021. This union was blessed with four daughters.
Janelle was a generous spirit and pleasant personality. She was loved by many, especially her four daughters. Her Christian life was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved so well, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She taught three and four year old children in the Sunday School at Northwood Christian Church for 25 years.
She was sometimes referred to as a “homemaker.” That she was, but she was more than that, she was a “neighbor-maker.” She was able to make friends with all her neighbors and did whatever was needed to make their lives more enjoyable.
She had three vascular surgeries in 2012 and 2013 and another vascular procedure in 2019. She has been in Hospice Care for more than a year. In spite of her difficulties, she has maintained a good attitude and generous spirit. She quietly departed this life on Wednesday, May 26 at Life Journey (a hospice care facility in Avon, IN) with her husband and daughters at her bedside.
She was preceded in death by her parents, (Paul and Katie Griffin) and a sister (Mrs. Catherine Keys).
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her husband and children: Gwen (Dr Andrew) Chandler, Augusta, GA, Kathy (Brian) Hagemier, Danville, IN; Sandra (Ret. Col David) Wood, Danville, IN; and Leslie (Paul) Kopecky, Indianapolis, IN; eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; and one great, great grandson.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Home– Washington Park North Friday, June 4 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial gifts be made to Northwood Christian Church or to the charity of your choice.
