Jane Newcomb

Jane Ann Rosenberger Newcomb, 95, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026.

Jane was born on May 12, 1931, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to Howard and Gladys Rosenberger. She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1949. A proud alumna of Indiana University, she was an active member of the Sigma Kappa sorority and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1952.

Jane married Roger Newcomb, a fellow IU graduate, in 1956. She worked as an English teacher in Indianapolis until the birth of her first child. Jane and Roger raised three daughters and were deeply involved in numerous social and charitable organizations. Jane was a dedicated member of the St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild, Early Learning Indiana, and a longtime member of Meridian Street United Methodist Church.

Passionate supporters of their alma mater, Jane and Roger were 50-year members of the IU Varsity Club, as well as the Hoosier Hundred and the President’s Circle. As season ticket holders, they attended countless basketball and football games. One of her most cherished memories was taking the train to Pasadena, California, to watch Indiana play in the 1968 Rose Bowl. She was absolutely thrilled to see the Indiana University Football team bring home the National Championship earlier this year!

Jane loved being a mom to her three daughters as well as a grandma to 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. She cherished holidays when she could host large gatherings of her family and friends. She loved playing bridge and was a member of two bridge clubs. She and Roger also spent many years with lifelong friends in a supper club.

Jane and Roger explored the world together, traveling extensively throughout Europe. They spent their winters in Naples, Florida, enjoying morning walks and lively outings with friends. Jane also loved spending summer weekends at their lake house on Morse Reservoir.

She is survived by her three daughters, Amy Musser (Jonathan), Cassandra Hicks (Dennis), and Elizabeth Baxter (Arthur). Jane was a devoted and loving grandmother to Daniel Hicks (Rachel), Jason Musser, Steven Baxter, Benjamin Hicks, Elise Musser, Madelyn Baxter, and Jonathan Hicks. Her great-grandson, Calvin Hicks, also brought immense joy and comfort to her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Roger, and her parents, Howard and Gladys Rosenberger.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 26th from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan-Carmel, located at 325 E. Carmel Dr., Carmel, IN. A memorial service will immediately follow. Jane will be laid to rest during a private family ceremony at Washington Park North Cemetery on July 27th.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild.
