Jane F. Englert

January 21, 1925 — August 4, 2015

Jane F. Englert, 90, Carmel, passed away on August 4, 2015. She was born January 21, 1925, in New York, NY, the daughter of the late Quested and Florence (Schmidt) Elgar. In June 1947, she married Thomas W. Englert, who preceded her in death in 1988. Jane received her bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of New Hampshire. She was a member of PrimeLife, Carmel Clay Library Friends, and the Carmel Clay Historical Society. She was an avid reader and participated in the Critical Mass book club for over 10 years. She enjoyed playing bridge, and was quite a correspondent. Many counted on Jane's weekly letters always penned in her still beautiful hand. She loved to travel and started late in life, crossing the Mississippi for the first time while in her 60's. She globe trotted until her mid-70's, sending postcards along the way. So many counted her as a friend; she had a wide social circle. Jane was a generous and engaged mother and grandmother, always interested in her extensive family's activities. She is survived by her four children, John Q. Englert, Steven J. Englert, Judith A. (William Bales) Liederbach, and Matthew T. (Amy) Englert; four grandchildren, Max Q. Liederbach, Alex J. Liederbach, Haley F. Englert, and Thomas M. Englert, and one great grandchild, Jackson D. Harmas. She was preceded in death by her younger brother, John "Sonny" Q. Elgar, in 1933. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2015, at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. Memorial contributions may be directed to PrimeLife Enrichment.
