James Whitman

James H. Whitman, 88, Indianapolis, passed away August 2, 2014. He was born April 11, 1926, in Munfordville, KY, the son of the late William H. Whitman and Florence (Dawson) Moore. Jim served in the United States Army. He retired in 1991 from Allison Gas Turbine after 39 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #500. He enjoyed building models, and collecting stamps and coins. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley Whitman; three children, Connie (Jim) Simpson, James R. Whitman, Steven H. Whitman; three grandchildren, Brad (Jen) Simpson, Jeffrey (Emily) Simpson, Stefanie Simpson; and a niece, Diane Nichols. He was preceded in passing by a brother, Hobart H. Whitman Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Flanner and Buchanan – Broad Ripple, 1305 East Broad Ripple Avenue. Visitation will be from 12 noon until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
