James WatsonSmylie Jr., a retired accountant with the Mississippi Department of Audit,passed away on March 3, 2016. He was born in 1923 in Greenwood, MS. Hegraduated from Greenwood High School and attended Mississippi State Universityand Southwestern Louisiana College. He was a combat veteran having served as aRadio Operator on a B-29, flying missions over Japan during WW11 and as anArtillery Air Observer during the Korean War. Among his military awards are theDistinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with ten oaks clusters. He was amember of the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, MS. His wife Katherinepreceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Mike) Barton ofZionsville, IN and his son, Jim (Tanya) Smylie of Heath, TX and four grandchildren,Kate, Courtney, and Tyler Barton and Tucker Smylie. A Celebration of Life willbe held at a later date in Greenville, MS.
