James W. “Bill” Ritter
84, Indianapolis, passed away on April 21, 2011. He was born on April 9, 1927 in Scottsburg, IN to Henry and Anna Mae West Ritter who preceded him in death along with his sisters; Sarah Ritter and Martha Boswell and brothers; Thomas F. and Henry Edwin Ritter. He was a retired teacher, coach and counselor for Indianapolis Public Schools for 37 years. After retirement he continued to coach basketball at I.U.P.U.I and for U.S.I.S. He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, American Legion Post 500, Knights of Columbus Holy Family Council, F.C.A. and Past President of the I.R.T.A. Inductee and Board Member Emeritus in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. He was a graduate of Purdue University and a member of T.K.E. Fraternity. He received his Masters from Butler University. He is survived by his wife Lydia Johnson Ritter, children; Lisa (Paul) Dovey, Bob (Mary Bomar) Ritter, Julie (J) Holmes and William (Nancy) Ritter, grandchildren; Julianna Holmes, Jennifer (Carl) Shedd and Joshua Holmes, great-grandchildren; Connor and Collin Shedd and brother Paul M. (Ruby) Ritter. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm, Monday, April 25, 2011 at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Speedway. Services will be Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 11 am with calling one hour prior at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Additional services will be held in Scottsburg, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame or Lyrics Alive, Inc.
