James Leroy Sturtz, 87, of Indianapolis passed away May 14, 2015. He was born November 11, 1927 in Boone, Iowa, son of Milo and Janice (Blanchard) Sturtz. He graduated from Boone High School and joined the U.S Navy. He entered Iowa State University after his Navy discharge and graduated with a B.S degree. He was a member of Delta Upsilon. He played football during his high school and college days and also played while in the Navy. He had worked for Swift and Co. in Chicago and was Sales Mgr. for Gold Seal (Mr. Bubble) in Indianapolis. Jim also owned Diversified Underwriters Insurance. He was a founding member of Carmel Dads' Club and coached Carmel Pups for 15 years. He was an active member of the Carmel Kiwanis Club for 20 years. After retirement Jim was a greeter at Galyan's Sporting Goods and also worked for Crews & Sturtz Designers & Builders. He loved family cookouts, football (Colts and Purdue), and the cottage at Lake Shafer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Patricia (Spalding) Sturtz; sons Stephen (Kristin) and Donald Sturtz; step-daughter, Susan (Robert) Galyen; grandchildren, Kasey, Shelby, Jody, and Zac Sturtz; step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Girish) Nair, Stephanie (Nick) Metheny, Michael (Ashton) Galyen; and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joanne Hines.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Flanner and Buchanan-Oaklawn (Connor Suite), 9700 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46250.
