James “Jim” Earl Sandifer, 90, Carmel, went home to be with his Lord April 7, 2024. He was born in Anderson, IN to J. Earl Sandifer and Helen “Betty” (Brown) Sandifer. Jim graduated from Anderson High School, followed by B.A. and J.D. degrees from Indiana University. Jim proudly served his country through the Army and Army Reserves, while he also developed a legal practice. Jim continued to serve as an attorney for 62 years, where he was called to serve individuals in great need.
In his free time, Jim took great joy in cheering on his Indiana Hoosiers, rarely missing a game. Jim spent much of his time looking for his errant golf balls with the Brookshire Senior Men’s Club. Jim also enjoyed gardening and landscaping, and he was a graduate of the Purdue University Extension Master Gardener Program. However, Jim’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and reveling in the accomplishments of his grandchildren.
Jim was an active community servant, serving many organizations such as the Indianapolis Zoo, Castleton United Methodist Church, Boy Scout Troop 133, and District Chair of BSA Crossroads of America Council Northeast District.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, along with brother Jerry B. Sandifer.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Helen “Kay” (Collings) Sandifer, children J. Edward “Ed” (Mari) Sandifer, Susanna K. Sandifer, grandchildren Elizabeth “Betsy” K. (Jake) Mickel, and John “Jack” E. Sandifer.
