James N. Rogers (Jim) passed away peacefully on Monday, December 11, 2023 after an extended illness. He was born on February 24, 1951 in Gary, Indiana to Anthony and Lillian (Gora) Rogers (formerly Rogozinski). He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Tony, Bob, George and Connie.
Growing up, Jim played baseball at Junedale Little League, caddied at the Gary Country Club and worked his way up from newspaper boy in the circulation department of the Gary Post Tribune.
Jim was a “season ticket holder” at 7:30 am mass at St. Louis de Montfort in Fishers where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, lector and usher, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Jim attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and Andrean High School in Gary and graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was a problem solver with a passion for math and physics. Jim worked as a Professional Structural Engineer for over 40 years in Lafayette, Indiana, Glenview, Illinois, and Indianapolis. He was an avid lifelong Boilermaker fan.
Jim’s greatest joy was coaching, encouraging and cheering on his children and his favorite pastime was being entertained by his three grandsons.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years Kathi, his children Ben (Tomoko) Rogers, Betsy (Jacob) Houk and his three grandsons, Tyler, Mason and Luke Houk, and a long list of cousins and family friends who loved him dearly.
There will be a gathering at St. Louis De Montfort Catholic Church, 11441 Hague Road in Fishers on Friday, December 15, 2023 from 10:00 to 10:30 am with a funeral Mass immediately following. Burial will be at a later date.
The family would like to extend thanks to the dedicated caregivers at Meridian Hills Story Cottage who cared for him with dignity and love during his final illness.
Memorial contributions may be made to the SLDM Knights of Columbus or the Make A Wish Foundation.
