James R. Preston

James R. Preston 82 of Carmel, passed away January 21, 2014. He was born to the late Frank and Mary Preston in Petersburg, Indiana. He joined and served in the United States Army. Jim started his career at L.S. Ayres and was a buyer at both Ayres and Ayrway, before embarking on a sales career with Hansley Manufacturing and Fruit of the Loom. After retirement he started the Golden Globers for Ambassadair and served as host. He helped organize and select trips for the over 50 age group, monthly meetings and speakers. Jim served as president of Northwest Kiwanis and also as president of the Mens and Boys Apparel Club of Indiana. Jim was a member of the Dramatic Club for over 40 years and participated in both acting and having served as chairman three different times, and also on many committees. Jim is survived by his wife, Suzie Jenney-Preston; daughters, Cindy (Charlie) Burtner and Karen (David) Reid; step-children, Eric (Ann) Jenney, Cara (David) Lockwood and Matt (Vickie) Jenney; sisters, Thelma Brower, Linda Higgins and Mary Ann Wood; grandchildren, Preston Reid, Perry Reid, and Alex Burtner; and seven step-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by a brother, John Preston. A gathering will be on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 3:00 to 4:00 with a memorial service at 4:00 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church 100 W. 86th Street Indianapolis, Indiana.
