James R. Pontius

James R. Pontius, 73 of Carmel, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his family. Jim was born August 29, 1942 in Lafayette, IN to the late Donald and Esther Pontius. He worked as a self-employed mechanic from 1990 until his retirement in 2012. Previously, he worked for Dave Waite Pontiac for 25 years and Miller’s Auto Care in Carmel for 10 years. Jim was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed bass fishing and hunting.

Family and friends are invited to gather from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday, May 22 at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Monday, May 23 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.

Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jerri; sons, John T. (wife, Kay), James D. (wife, Kathy) and Jeffrey D. (wife, Allison) Pontius; grandchildren, Tyler and John Pontius and Maryssa Foster; brother, Donald Terry (wife, Mary Ann) Pontius; sister, Christine Pontius. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Charles Pontius.
