James R. Barnard

James R. Barnard of Greenfield was born January 25, 1927 and died on September 22, 2013, the first day of autumn. He was born in Lake, Kentucky, the middle child of seven children of Richard Barnard and Nell Gross. He married the love of his life, Edna Hensley, on January 15, 1947. He was a loving and caring husband and father, who always put his family first. He served in the US Army Air Corp. He was employed at Western Electric where he retired after 33 years. He enjoyed 32 years of retirement filled with the enjoyment of playing golf, which he had two holes in one, and spending time with his family. He was a man of great spiritual strength, conviction, faith and humility. He showed great strength and courage in his battle with cancer, inspiring everyone around him with his patience, faith and sense of humor. He was fun-loving and a great storyteller! He never met a stranger and everyone who knew him, loved him. He will be deeply missed. Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife of 66 years, Edna Barnard, his children, Ron (Kathy) Barnard, Debbie (Bruce) Grelle, brother, John Barnard, granddaughters, Sarah (Matt) Brothers and Emily Grelle and great-grandson, Sam Brothers. Friends may call from 5- 8 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis. Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Friday at the Funeral Center. Interment will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery. Contributions may be made in his name to the Hancock Regional Hospital Foundation Hospice Unit or to the Colon Cancer Alliance.
