James Edward Quatman, Sr.

James Edward Quatman, Sr., a devoted family man, passed away on July 10, 2025. Born on May 16, 1947, in Indianapolis, James made indelible memories throughout his life, particularly through his unwavering love for his family. He dedicated 21 years of his life as a police officer with IPD, retiring in 1989, a career that reflected his commitment to serving and protecting his community.

Jim will be deeply missed by his children: Caroline Miller, Katie Thompson (Dave), Beth Messer (Jeremy), Jimmy Quatman (Ashley), and Billy Quatman (Shae). The laughter and joy of his 11 grandchildren brought him immeasurable happiness and pride. His greatest accomplishments included attending their various events, where he reveled in their successes and milestones, and marrying the love of his life, Patricia “Patty” L. Quatman, whom he called his best friend for 54 years.

Jim’s passion for model trains, Bishop Chatard Football, fishing, and golf, resonated with those close to him. Whether it was spending leisurely days on the golf course or sharing stories while watching the games, he always made time for the things he loved and loved to share those moments with his family.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patty and a son-in-law, Carl Miller. He was also predeceased by his parents, John J. Quatman, Jr. and Mary Anne Quatman, and his brother, William M. Quatman.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 3:00 PM at Christ the King Catholic Church, located at 5884 Crittenden Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46220.

Family invites anyone that was a part of both Jim and Patty’s life to the house following the burial. Jim always said that when he died “he just wanted a big party.”
