James L. Nix

Indianapolis, Indiana – James L. Nix, 89, passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2026.

Jim was born on July 4, 1936, in Evansville, Indiana to parents John N. & Mildred E. (Hallam) Nix. After graduating from Benjamin Bosse High School, he attended Butler University on a football scholarship where he met the love of his life, Jane Lineback. They were married on August 31,1958 and together they celebrated 65 years of marriage before her passing in 2024.

Jim worked in sales as a Blood Specialist for Ortho Diagnostics before buying a Dairy Queen in 1978. After selling the Dairy Queen in 1988, he worked at Morning Star Golf Course as their Golf Course Superintendent.

When not working, Jim had a multitude of hobbies he enjoyed. Wine making, ham radio, boating, fishing, woodworking and golfing. He even loved to fly and had a Cessna Skyhawk. He and Jane also enjoyed spending time as snow birds at their condo in Boca Raton, Florida.

In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his beloved wife Jane.

He is survived by his daughters, Stacia McKinney (Robert) and Laura Atkins (Jack); grandchildren Matthew McKinney (Heather), Joshua McKinney (Lauren), Jeremy McKinney, Amy Felipe (Sergio), Alexis Miller (David), Gabrielle Washington (Darius), Hailey Atkins, and Kaija Atkins; and great-grandchildren Christian Felipe, Jacey Felipe, Maya Felipe, Valen Atkins, and Lily Miller; and 1 great-great grandchild.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana) from 11 am – 1 pm and a graveside service will be held immediately following at Washington Park East Cemetery.
