James Monroe Carter

James Monroe Carter, M.D., 87, of Carmel, Indiana, died in his home on July 25, 2014. He was born August 24, 1926, in Nelson County, Virginia, the son of James Monroe and Bertha Devord (Johnson) Carter. Jim served in the Navy during WWII and then attended Lynchburg College on the G.I.Bill. He received his medical degree from the University of Virginia. Following his residency, he practiced radiology in Marquette, Michigan and Parkersburg,West Virginia, where he brought innovative procedures and diagnostics previously unavailable to the Mid-Ohio Valley. He retired from fulltime practice in 1992 and moved to Carmel, Indiana, four years ago to be closer to family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruby (Greene) Carter, four children, Sharon (Jeffrey) Poole of Shorewood, Wisconsin, Jill (Mark) Kendrat of Carmel, Indiana, J. Chett (Audre) Carter of Minnetrista, Minnesota, and Chyrise (Kenneth) Ney of Carmel, Indiana, 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Pearl Massie. A memorial visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance can be made to Mission to Ukraine, 1033 3rd Ave., SW #111, Carmel, IN 46032.
