James Robert Mickley of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away March 7, 2026, at 86 years of age. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 14, 1939, to the late Bert Charles and Ruth (Figg) Mickley. Jim, as he was affectionately known, was a Tool & Die Maker for 17 years prior to pursuing a career at Allison’s Transmission as a Machine Repairman for over 30 years. He proudly served his country in the U S Army. Jim enjoyed any and all sports, horse racing, motorcycle riding, being a talented handyman, being able to fix whatever he put his mind to, he loved and cherished his very first new car he bought a 1960 Chevrolet Impala that had an all-black interior and an all-black exterior that he took meticulous care of while he owned it, and spending time with his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen A. (Lile) Mickley, whom he married on September 25, 2016, his children, Michael Allen Mickley, Kimberly (Tim) Tanner, Anastasia (Bobby) Kelly, his grandchildren, Michael (Misty) Jr., Rachel (Mike),Ariel (Kirsten), Tim (Haleigh) Jr., his great grandchildren, Brandon, Dakota, Nevaeh, , Evan, Logan, Autumn, his great-great grandsons, Branson, Levi, Tatum, his sister, Diane McFarland, his uncle, Richard Figg, and his cousins, Carole Linder, and Pat Cokain. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son, James Robert, Jr., and his granddaughter, Shannon, and great granddaughter Kayla. Jim’s final wishes were to be cremated, and Flanner Buchanan Decatur Township is entrusted with those arrangements. He will be laid to rest at Crown Hill National Cemetery with military honors in the future. Please check back for updates on the date and time of the service.
