James (Jim) R. Koch

James (Jim) R. Koch, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 81.

Jim was born on October 21, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from George Washington High School in 1962. Jim was a Marion County Sheriff for 20 years and was the commander of the Marion County Sheriff Motorcycle Drill Team. He worked at IPL Security after retiring from the Sheriff Department. Jim was a Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner and a member of the Lynhurst Mason Lodge 723 as well as F.O.P. Lodge #86.

Jim enjoyed taxidermy. His interest in taxidermy started in high school and he had his own shop for many years. He also loved hunting and fishing. Jim especially loved going fishing in Canada with his friend, Johnny Cooper. He was very artistic and loved woodworking and scrimshawing. Jim and his wife, Marcia, enjoyed painting pictures and antiquing together. Jim had a great love of all animals-dogs, cats and turtles.

He is survived by daughters Dana Fields (Chris) and Carrie Christman (Bobby); sisters-in-law Carla and Carol Koch; nieces Kelley Dove (Tracy) and Courtney Hedges (Dan); nephews Mark Koch and Mike (Kim) Koch; great-nieces and nephews Kaitlyn, Abby and David Dove, Avery and Garrett Koch; faithful dog companion Steffy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcia (Buckley) Koch; son Jimmy C. Koch; parents Herb and Josephine Koch; brothers Larry and David Koch.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, located at 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229.

Entombment will be in Washington Park East Cemetery, 10612 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Indiana Chapter, 615 N Alabama St., Suite 430, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
