James J. Blair (Jimmie Joe) 84, rounded the bases one last time January 28th, 2015 and was called "safe at home" by the Great Umpire. He is survived by his wife Treva of 63 years and two sons, Jim Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Ed Blair of Indianapolis, in addition to six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Jim has four surviving siblings, Harold (Arch) Blair, Larry Blair, and Richard (Dick) Blair, as well as a sister Darlene (Blair) Pinegar. Jim was born Sep 16, 1930 in Terre Haute where he graduated from Gerstmeyer High School. He served in the 8th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division during the Korean War. A lifelong athlete, Jim was a member of both the Indiana Softball Hall of Fame and Terre Haute Softball Hall of Fame. After retiring from Indianapolis Power and Light, he became an avid golfer, and would travelmiles to enjoy the athletic accomplishments of his grandchildren.He was a past commander of American Legion Post 497 as well as member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Amvets.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 7th, 2015 at Flanner and Buchanan-Speedway, from 10am – 1:30pm with a memorial service to begin at 1:30pm. Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.
