James (Jim) Earl Dozier Jr. was born January 30, 1945, in Gray, Kentucky to Clarence and Jessie Dozier who preceded him in death. The family relocated when he was 8 to Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from Avon High School, Class of 1965. He then entered the U.S Army being sent to Aberdeen, Maryland and was trained to be a wheel and track mechanic. While in the Army he married Kandace Elaine Marshall and for awhile was stationed in Germany where he talked about enjoying that stay and the food. Upon his discharge from the U.S. Army and returning to the United States he got a job at United Parcel Service (UPS) and worked as a mechanic and spent most of his 39 years at the West 81st Street location.
His wife, Kandace, preceded him in death in 2001. He was also preceded in death by his brothers; Jobie who was killed in Viet Nam, Kenneth who lived in Lexington, North Carolina, Clarence D. (Darwin) who lived in Indianapolis and his sisters Della Mattox of Carmel, IN. and Billie J. Willey of Indianapolis, IN. and his brother-in-law Gary Marshall of Indianapolis,IN.
In 2005 he met and married his present wife, Patricia (Pat) of Middlesboro, KY. who survives. He is also survived by his brother Mark (Doyle) Dozier and wife Beverly of Indianapolis, IN. and his sister Pat Parker of Greenwood, IN. and sisters-in-law Pat Dozier of Lexington, NC. and Margaret Bailey of Jeffersontown, KY. and his brothers-in-law Larry Mattox of Carmel, IN and Randy Marshall of Indianapolis, IN. as well as many nieces and nephews. Of course we cannot forget the new addition that joined Jim and Pat in July, 2018….. Their West Highland Terrier (westie) Palomine .
He has been a member of the American Legion Post 500 and was a member of Teamsters L710.
James (Jim) passed away on Monday night, March 11, 2019, at age 74.
Military Honors will be held at the funeral.
